<image:title>About Wale - Coming to America</image:title>
<image:caption>Coming to America at the age of 21, my journey was not an easy one. With no access to financial aid or loans, I paid way through college. This involved a lot of pain, sacrifice, hard work and persistence. In the process, I developed an entrepreneurial spirit that I used to create my very own software company. I understand business and through innovation, I single-handedly developed a lumber ERP and inventory system called Lumbergear, which was mentioned in the 2007 edition of INC 5000 magazine. I also created a baseball and softball bat manufacturing software for a major sporting goods company. My skills and expertise took me to the largest furniture manufacturing company in the world where I managed numerous complex successful projects.</image:caption>

<image:title>About Wale - Community Servant</image:title>
<image:caption>Described as a community servant by the La Crosse Tribune Editorial Board, I am an advocate for people, community, and diversity. I have brought people of all backgrounds together through positive dialogue and collaboration. The Midwest is also the longest place I have ever lived. Strong Midwestern values are a part of who I am, and Rochester is home. I served in management for a local food coop in La Crosse Wisconsin and Rochester Minnesota, where I followed cooperative principles to provide households with safe and quality food. I have also successfully worked with Police and minority communities to forge stronger relationships.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I grew up knowing that there was something special in me. As a young boy that grew up in Lagos, Nigeria and Lomé, Togo, the love my father, mother, and family gave me provided me with the strength and confidence to seek out knowledge, build skills and find truth. This has allowed me to fulfill my passion in life and contribute positively to society. You are also special! Your loved ones, family, friends, community.. all those that have supported you in some way shape or form are a testament to that.</image:caption>

<image:title>Words of Inspiration - 1. Focus</image:title>
<image:caption>One of the biggest challenges that you will face in your life is time. There is simply not enough of it. How will you prioritize your time? In an age with so many technology innovations, systems, and disruption that is happening around us, it is extremely easy to become distracted and not know where to start. You know, there is an African proverb that says if you listen to the noise of the market, you won’t buy anything. The essence of this proverb is focus. I would also add to this proverb by saying “if you don’t see what you want in the market, go to another market”. Don’t be afraid to change. If you don’t manage change and are not proactive, change will manage you. Don’t be distracted by all the things around you, dream big, but know that dreams alone don’t achieve. You need to have goals and focus on your target. Put in the work. Don’t just work hard, work smart. Don't think about what is holding you back. Just do It!</image:caption>

<image:title>Words of Inspiration - 2. Build Your Top 5.</image:title>
<image:caption>We are greatly influenced by our environment. In the words of entrepreneur and motivational speaker Jim Rohn, you are the direct reflection of the top 5 people you spend time with. Build your top 5 and seek out people that improve you as a person and professional. People you surround yourselves with are the biggest influence on your behavior, attitudes and results. They determine what conversations you engage in, and eventually you start to think and behave like they do. Stay away from negative energy. Seek out mentors that improve you. Seek out positive people. if you serve with excellence, happiness and ethical & servant leadership in whatever field you do, you will be successful. Your success and positive energy will attract others around you.</image:caption>

<image:title>Words of Inspiration - 3. Community and Service</image:title>
<image:caption>A great man in our world once said “I look back to the achievements not of individuals, but to the achievements of collective action. A group of men and women: that is the nature of our struggle” This great man was Nelson Mandela. Mr. Mandela went on to say “Without this struggle, we would still be under apartheid”. Remember, we is always stronger than me. Collective strength is far superior to individual strength, but you also need to build and strengthen yourself, to make the group and team stronger. America is a great country and when you look at all major achievements we have done as a country, it was successful because of collective strength. Service is a choice so choose to serve others. Choose to serve your patients, customers, students, the poor, and the sick. Choose to serve your neighbors, veterans, underrepresented populations, people that look differently than you do or worship differently than you do. Choose to serve community. This is how we make our community, workplace, country and world a better place.</image:caption>

<image:title>Words of Inspiration - 4. Do Your Best … Leave the Rest</image:title>
<image:caption>My personal motto is “do your best and leave the rest”. This has served me well and allowed me to go the extra extra mile to get things done. It’s easier said than done but effective. I try not to waste any effort worrying about things I can’t control. Put effort on the things you can control. For example, you can control working hard. You can control being nice and respectful. You can control serving others. You can control what you say. You can control not being jealous of others. Remember, a speech is like an egg, once it drops, it can’t be withdrawn so choose your words wisely. You are the change for tomorrow so do your very best in everything you do, focus on the meaningful things that made a difference, build a strong environment and as you serve your community and respective organizations, do so with faithful service and ethical leadership.</image:caption>

<image:title>Home - Wale Elegbede on standing together to end racism, lessons he’s learned</image:title>
<image:caption>As a young boy growing up in West Africa, I witnessed the appalling effects of prejudice and bias under autocratic rule. I was born in Nigeria during an era when military regimes gained power through coup d'etat. My father was a diplomat, and when my family moved to Togo, a neighboring West African country, I also observed the autocratic and domineering rule of President Gnassingbé Eyadema who ruled the small country for 38 years until his death. I saw how prejudice and bias influences decisions that marginalize certain groups over others and heard rhetoric from dictators that when left unchecked, led to ethnic and religious discrimination, riots and death.</image:caption>

Elegbede is a leader in strategy execution, cancer, community’s interfaith network Wale Elegbede has had a successful career in numerous industries from consulting, information technology and systems, lumber, retail, e-commerce, manufacturing, and healthcare. But it’s his work in healthcare with a novel cancer treatment called chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy (CAR T-cell therapy) for adults with B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma that has been the highlight and most fulfilling part of his career to date.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Growing up in Nigeria and Togo, Wale Elegbede ’19 learned a lot from his father about leadership and being a good person. His father’s death when Elegbede was 13 was especially influential, instilling in him a drive, a sense that he should never put off important work. “His death drove home that time is precious, so I want to do the best I can, when I can,” Elegbede said. “Do your best, leave the rest. That’s my motto.”</image:caption>

<image:title>Home - Let’s Go From Not My Business to Everyone’s Business!</image:title>
<image:caption>I believe that discrimination plagues us because we have not made it our collective business. I believe that in order to rid of discrimination which includes racism, Islamophobia, and hate crimes, we need to go from a state of “not my business” to “everyone's business”. My belief is that this will help cultivate a shift in perspective, and result in a changed mindset that will build and sustain connection, empathy and elevate opportunities for everyone. Historically speaking, anytime certain groups are targeted or scapegoated, we also see apathy. The holocaust, apartheid, genocide, internment camps, are examples where some members of society were targeted while others simply wanted to go about their daily lives, did not feel they could make a difference and in some cases, did not care how the targeting of others impacted them. “Not my business” means you’re too busy worrying about your own stuff and not speaking or taking action to address society’s ill. It has nothing to do with what you feel inside, where your heart is or whether you’re sad. When I say “everyone’s business”, I am not referring to social policing where folks are policing interactions of others or vigilantism. “Everyone’s business” means letting people in your community know how these issues affect everyone in a constructive and positive way. It means we are in this together. We are our brothers and sisters keeper. We are one community together.</image:caption>

<image:title>Home - Word of inspiration, embedded in truth, from my personal and professional life…</image:title>
<image:caption>Love, curiosity, and purpose fueled my journey as a first-generation immigrant to America, the shining city on the hill. Along the way, I have experienced death, pain, desperation, hopelessness and failure. I have also experienced love, family, mission, professional success, renewed purpose and community. My journey through hard work, smart work and team work, gave me opportunities across multiple industries at some of the world’s largest and highest ranked organizations. My journey also made me serve on important boards and become a community servant. I would like you to share four things with you today. These are some of the things that have served me well and hope they help you as well. Do your best… Leave the rest</image:caption>

<image:title>Home - Diversity. Race. Social Justice - Fighting Hate, Racism and Islamophobia</image:title>
<image:caption>Looking for where to start? Here are simple things we can all do. Get to know one another: Seek neighborly relationships with Blacks and underrepresented minorities, Muslims and immigrants. Be honest with yourself. Are all your friends white, black or from a specific religious group? If so, expand your circle. Talk to people who look different than you do or worship differently that you do. Be your brother and sister’s keeper. How do we avoid the mistakes of the past? We do so by learning from history so that we don’t repeat the same mistakes. Have these conversations in your household, with your kids, at the workplace, religious institutions and schools. Visit a local mosque or synagogue or church, have a respectful conversation with people of different faiths or no faith. Break bread and eat with one another. Do not stereotype and scapegoat Muslims, Jews, underrepresented populations, immigrants and refugees. Stand up against bigotry, racism, Islamophobia, anti-Semitism, intolerance in a peaceful, respectful but direct manner. Resist xenophobia.</image:caption>
